Have I posted since I moved back to Birmingham yet? I'm not sure. Things are going great, but I'm still looking for a job. I will find something soon. Really.
I started watching 30 Rock online, from the beginning. Why have I never gotten into this show before? It's excellent.
Soon Shannon and I will begin watching season 2 of Mad Men. I can't wait.
As far as television this fall goes, Heroes has not been keeping my interest. How I Met Your Mother has been as entertaining as ever. The Office has been even better than before as far as I'm concerned (please don't leave, Holly. Please). Gossip Girl is my guilty pleasure, and it's as good as season 1 was.
Okay. Back to 30 Rock... |

I'm moving back to Birmingham again, and I'm happy about it. I have to find a new job, but I'm so happy to leave the one I'm in right now. It'll be so great to be with Shannon, and not two hours away. I'm tired of the distance. So, in about two weeks, I think, I'll be moving back. And we'll figure out where we go from there. I'm excited.
Last weekend we went to the zoo in Birmingham, and I touched animals. Giraffe, baby alligator, llama, and a rat. Isn't that exciting. Last time I was at the Atlanta Zoo, I poked a sleeping lemur. I don't think I ever mentioned that before.
The newest series of the Ricky Gervais podcasts were absolutely brilliant. Too bad there were only four episodes.
That's all for now. |

Who loves Mad Men as much as I do? Shannon and I watched the entire first season over the weekend. It's absolutely great.
I was looking to see when the DVD of Forgetting Sarah Marshall was coming out, and the Amazon page has Jason Bateman and Billy Baldwin listed as the stars. I laughed. Link
I love my iPhone. |

Um, hi! I'm just having a quiet weekend alone here. Lately I've been spending lots of time job hunting. Let's hope something pans out. I'm ready for something new. Also ready to move forward in many aspects of my life. Just have to spark the fire.
I saw Colin Meloy on Thursday night. He was great, though he forgot the words to half of the songs he played. Luckily, he didn't forget the words to Tristan and Iseult, my favorite Tarkio song. He was very funny. He played a new epic song that sounds really great. Can't wait to hear what the D's do with it. Mariner's Revenge Song was also very fun, even without the band. Fun fun.
Last night I watched way too much How I Met Your Mother. I love it. It's not bad. Seriously. Stop laughing. I have feelings, you know.
Today I might get my hair cut. Also might go look at some clothes. I need some new summer clothes.
That's it for now I guess. I should probably start getting things done. |

I went to NYC for a long weekend, and it was wonderful! Sucks to be back. Shannon and I had a wonderful time spending the weekend with Alison and Vida. I didn't want to leave. I won't write too much, but we went to MoMA with Alison, the Met with Vida, the Natural History Museum on our own. I love museums. Shannon and Alison went to Avenue Q together while Vida and I went drinking. Spent a lot of time on the subway, and did pretty well at finding my way around without much help. Shannon and I walked around Chinatown on Monday, and looked at all the food they had on display. Also saw a big bucket of live and dead frogs. :\ Shannon was sick when we left, but she got better. Poor Baby! We have the best time.
Here's what we ate: Saturday: Dizzy's for brunch - I had a very delicious cheddar eggs, home fries, toast breakfast Rendez-vous for appetizers - Hummus, cheese pitas, grape leaves, and buffalo wings, beer. I really enjoyed it. Veselka for late dinner - My third time there, and one of my favorite places in the city. I love my pierogis. I had three meat, two cheese, and two potato pierogis.
Sunday: Mimi's pizza for lunch - Very good pizza pretty close to the Met St. Andrew's for dinner - I had some wonderful bass with potatoes and baby clams. We had calamari for appetizer. And we had sticky toffee pudding and little ice cream sandwiches for dessert. Alison has the hook up. I loved it.
Monday: Lunch in Chinatown - Went to a place the NFT mentioned. It was great. We struggled with our chopsticks and the large pieces of chicken. Dinner at Rhythm & Booze - I love mozarella burger. And Alison has the nicest bartender ever.
That's all for now! I like thinking about my delicious meals. Mmm.
And I forgot about all the hummus! Alison had hummus ready for me right when we arrived. She's the best. |

So, Christmas was great. Spent it with the family. I got a Best Buy card to get a new iPod, which I finally got today. 80GB iPod Classic. Listening to it right now. It's awesome. Shannon got me a new camera. Not sure if I already mentioned that. Also got some clothes and a $75 gift certificate to the Highland Bar & Grille for Shannon and me. Wish I could've spent Christmas with Shannon, but being with the family was nice. But I was definitely ready to leave by Tuesday.
This weekend, Shannon, Dan, and Joy are coming to visit for New Years! I'm excited. It should be a great time.
Hope everyone's Christmas was great, and Happy New Year! |

We're getting to the point of the year where I like to make my top 5/10 lists. So, today I'm posting my top 5 concerts of the year. I don't go to as many shows as I used to, but I still saw some excellent shows. It's kinda hard to rank them. All of them except my #1 could probably be placed in any order. In reverse order, to build the suspense!
Honorable mention: Jay Clifford - Strange he didn't make it into the top 5. Seeing him with a band was nice, but it just wasn't the same. I want J,LC back. I did love hearing his new songs live though.
5. Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer - This show at the Univ of AL was just two amazing musicians playing together for 2 hours. It was incredible. They played a bunch of Edgar's own compositions, some of Chris's songs, and a lot of collaborations. They even played a very interesting version of the Smoothie Song. Seeing two of my favorite musicians play together on-stage was a joy. Highlight: Song For A Young Queen
4. The Decemberists - Probably not my favorite show of theirs that I've been to, but it was still incredible. They opened the show with "Crane Wife" 1, 2, 3->"The Island". Also got some older songs like "Grace Cathedral Hill" and "Billy Liar". Unfortunately the main set ended with When the War Came, which I hate, but the encore more than made up for it with a Brian Eno cover and "Mariner's Revenge Song". Highlight: "Crane Wife 1" and "You'll Not Feel the Drowning" from "The Island."
3. Nickel Creek - Perhaps my last Nickel Creek show ever? I kinda doubt it, but it will definitely be the last for quite a while. It was great. First of all, it was at the Fox Theatre here in Atlanta, where I have never been. What an amazing venue. I want to go on a tour. During the break, I walked up front to see what the balcony looked like an everything, and I had no idea what I was in for with the ceiling and everything. Wow. Um... but the show. Bela Fleck opened, which is always a plus. He played some solo stuff and also played individually with each member of NC. He also guested on a bunch of songs such as "The Fox", "Ferdinand the Bull", and "Reasons Why". They also played a couple older Bela songs all together. It's Nickel Creek. I've loved them for years. Not much more to say. It was a great last show for me. A great mix of songs from old to new. Highlights: "Lighthouse's Tale", "House Carpenter", anything with Bela.
2. Chris Thile/How To Grow a Band - Yeah... this link is rather Chris Thile heavy, I know. I can't help that he's amazing. 5 man bluegrass band playing all kinds of music. I love these guys. Now they're going by the Punch Bros. and they will have a new album next year. They played most of their songs from "How to Grow a Woman from the Ground", some Chris solo stuff, and some new songs. Their music is so much fun. From the frantic Watch'at Breakdown to the dark "Stay Away", they just constantly entertain. They have great banter together as well. Highlights: "Blind Leaving the Blind" movement, "Wolfcreek Pass", "Heart In a Cage" cover
1. The Swell Season (Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova from Once) - I knew it was going to be good, but I didn't know it was going to be this good. I saw the small "Irish folk musical" Once earlier this year, and I adored it. It stars Glen Hansard from the Irish band, The Frames and Czech musician Marketa Irglova. The Swell Season was a project they began before the movie was made. They played at the Variety Playhouse with a couple members of the Frames (violinist and bassist) and a cellist. What truly got me at this show was how I really only knew these musicians from a film. Seeing them on the big screen, and then seeing them on a small stage had me in complete awe. It was all such beautiful music. Glen's singing and playing is so raw and emotional. They played most of the songs from the film, some other Swell Season songs, and some Frames songs, plus a couple covers. Meeting them afterwards didn't hurt either. Glen is such a great frontman. Great stories, and so much energy. Highlights: "Say It To Me Now", "Falling Slowly", "Red Chord".
Worst show of the year: Yo La Tengo - I had never really heard much, but they're constantly praised in certain circles. I absolutely hated it. I listened to a couple of their albums to prepare myself. I'd just heard that they put on an amazing show. I left before it was over. It was just noise and vocals that you couldn't hear. The crowd was a pile of small obnoxious indie kids which didn't help matters. I think I was the tallest person there.
That's it... later this week, top 10 albums of the year. Top 10 movies probably won't come until January or February once I get caught up on movies I want to see. |

I'm sorry livejournal. I have completely neglected you for months. I'm still reading my friends page when I remember though.
Here's my regular Christmas icon for some holiday cheer!
Things have been going pretty well lately. Work is keeping me busy. And so are regular trips to Birmingham to see Shannon, my dad, and Mindy. This past weekend was nice. Friday night we played our DS's and watched half of Once. While watching it, Shannon seduced me. Hooray! Saturday night, I went and ate Mexican food with my dad. Mindy was so happy to see me. I bought her this squeaky hedgehog toy a month or so ago, and she absolutely loves it! That thing really keeps her occupied. I also hung out with Dan for a while.
I really need to find a new job. This one is just not paying enough, and on top of that, I don't really enjoy it very much now. I'd really like to get into law librarianship.
This feels like I'm having an awkward conversation with my lj, so I'll just end this now... |

I had a great weekend here in Atlanta. Shannon came to town, and we did all sorts of things! Friday night, while waiting for Shannon to get here, I went to my cousin's fraternity gathering at a bar downtown. It was Tech's homecoming weekend, so everyone was in town. I got to drink for free for a couple hours. I took a cab home at about 11, and waited for Shannon to arrive. Then we played with Peavy for a couple hours. She's such a fun little dog. I need to put some pictures of her up somewhere.
Saturday, we ate lunch at the Pleasant Peasant, which was ok, but nothing too special. I had an omelet with crab, bacon, and havarti. It sounded interesting. But I don't think I like crab... so oh well. We headed out to Lilburn to check out the massive Hindu temple they built. It was beautiful. I'm so glad we went. Words can't really describe. Then we napped for a little while. We went and ate dinner at the Limerick Junction Pub, and then went to a play. We got home, and decided we should go to a haunted house. I'd never been to one before, and it really was a lot of fun.
Sunday, we slept in, ate at Park Tavern, and enjoyed the beautiful weather.
Great weekend. :) Made me enjoy living here a bit more. |

For the life of me, I can not wake up today. I've been at work for an hour and I'm just as sleepy as I was when I got here. Things are going well. I have the condo to myself for a week and a half. Roger had to fly to Taiwan yesterday to try to fix some things with his business. I don't know what he's going to be doing exactly, but he doesn't seem too happy about it. Something about tsunamis. And factories not able to operate.
I never mentioned how much fun I had in New Orleans. Here's some of my favorite things: -The FOOD! Arnauds, Deanie's, Lola's, little diner place... it was all so amazing! -Bourbon Street was insane. More insane than I expected -At Harrah's I fell into a nasty gambling addiction and overcame it over the course of an hour. And walked out with $15 more than when I walked in! -Rode on a ferry boat across the river -The worst carriage ride tour guide in the world. "Folks, to your left we have Cafe Du Monde, where you can get some donuts." -Cafe Du Monde -Pretty hotel room -Spending time in one of Shannon's favorite places
Joy and Dan came over on Friday night for Dan's birthday. We went to Piebar to eat and then to Park Tavern to drink. It was fun. Joy was outta control! Saturday morning we headed to the aquarium and had a great time staring at animals.
I see an ad for the dvd of Knocked Up to the right of this box I'm typing in. I want it! I also want some Indian food. Anyone know of any good not-too-pricey take-out Indian restaurants that aren't too far from the Buckhead area?
That's it for now. And I say once again, maybe I'll try to post more often! But that's doubtful. |

What's been going on with me? Well, I've been working. It's an office job. Right now I'm mainly doing help desk phone calls and emails. I really like the people and the job. But, I have an interview at a library in a couple weeks, so we'll see what comes out of that. That job will pay much more than this one, and it will be what I actually want to do. If I get it, I'll just feel bad about leaving this job already. But I have to do what's best for me.
Lately I've been watching lots of Flight of the Conchords and No Reservations. FOTC is so hilarious. I can't get enough. I recommend anyone who hasn't seen/heard of them to go look them up on YouTube. New Zealand accents + Singer-songwriters + Stupid plotlines = Success. And No Reservations just always entertains me. Anthony Bourdain is a great host, and I'm learning lots about the world. I'm ready for fall tv though.
This weekend I'm going to New Orleans with Shannon! I'm so excited. I've never been. She's got the whole trip planned out and everything. I'm leaving work a little early tomorrow, then I'll drive to B'ham and then on to Louisiana.
I really will try to update this thing more often. I like writing. I think I need more focus. Maybe I should start a real blog. |

I was offered a job today, and I took it! It's at a small market research firm on Peachtree. I start on Monday. It doesn't pay well, but it seems like a very good job. And before too long, I will get benefits. I'm really looking forward to it. |
